Greetings from Rhode Island! In 2006, I was diagnosed with Young Onset Parkinson’s Disease, was I afraid, yes. I had a good job, good family and good friends. So for the first 7 ½ years I did nothing but work, come home and sit in front of my computer doing nothing except waste time. As time progresses I was overweight, my left foot was dragging, I had dyskinesias, bradykinesia, anxiety and paranoia, tes I was a mess!. Then one night while trolling through the internet I came across a video called "HOPE" by Rock Steady Boxing. I clicked on it and watched it over and over and over. That was my get up and start fighting back moment, I was obsessed to bring this program back home so I could help me and everyone else fighting PD. Fast forward to today, we have a Rock Steady program with over 100 members fighting Parkinson’s together, and we’re looking to expand to more programs like Tai Chi, LSVT Big and Loud, and more, all under one roof called The Parkinson’s Place. So for anyone battling PD, don’t do it alone.Get up and find your own way to fightback! I can guarantee you, when you do fightback, others will follow and suddenly a whole new world shows up and it’s beautiful. So if you’re reading this, I ask one thing. Join the fight against PD and shine a little light on your brothers and sisters!
